My name is John Boston and I’m 64 years old. I came across Sanctuary after being evicted from my home for not paying the rent. It was my fault and as a result I ended up sleeping on the streets of Gravesend which is something I’d never done before.
I was directed to Sanctuary and found it was far more than an overnight shelter. I was made welcome and they gave me clothes, shoes, I could get a hot shower, hot food as well as a safe place to sleep. If it hadn’t been for Sanctuary I would probably still be on the street.
Today my life has changed. I now have a council flat and I make regular trips back to Sanctuary only this time as a helper. And it’s all thanks to the volunteers who care about the homeless and have helped me move on with my life.
