Over the past few weeks we have been collating the statistics for Sanctuary over the past year. For reporting purposes our year covers June through to the following July. In comparison to last year, so much more has happened and through your support has been achieved.
Here are the headline figures (where we have them, last year is in brackets):
- Total number of individual guests accessing our services: 218 (103)
- No. of winter shelter sleeps (Dec-Mar): 712 (657)
- No. of hot meals served (Oct-Jun): 2533 (1934)
- No. of hot showers provided: 793
- No. of bags of laundry washed: 1154
- No. of items of clothes provided: 1042
All this was only possible through the dedication of our volunteers who throughout the year gave over 15,500 hours to Sanctuary. As you probably know, Sanctuary receives no external funding and relies totally on supporter contributions, which last year amounted to over £35,000. All of this money is spent on our guests – no one gets paid in the running and administration of Sanctuary.
This has been a fantastic achievement and has made a huge impact on the lives of those unfortunate enough not to have a place to live. Our work has also been recognised by Gravesham Borough Council and other agencies that we are in regular contact with, who again give their heartfelt thanks to the work we all do.
